CT41G registration update please

Per Working together October 212

HMRC are looking to improve their guidance on registering new companies following the integration of processes with Companies House following reports from agents that the process was not clear.

As far as I can see the process remains unclear and I cannot see any way for an agent to advise HMRC that a client Company has commenced trading using the online system - Am I missing something?

I have recently formed a company and was given the option for the formation agent to advise HMRC which I decide to take to see how it worked.

Client received CT41G with reference etc but it does  say that they have to advise HMT that they have started. It would appear from the notes on the CG41G that it would require them setting up their online account with HMT, not a good idea.Have now written to HMT

I have been online and set up online authorisation on 4 January so will see if they receive authorisation code in the 7 days that they say it will be dealt with, not much hope there then unless they have improved since i did the last one.

A company has to be active first

I know that HMRC do have this as an option, BUT how many companies are active from formation? Most companies require a bank account before they can start activities - therefore for many new companies the point of advising HMRC that a Company is active and thus the requirement to register the Company as active can be weeks after incorporation.

Many new start up businesses would not wish to do the HMRC registration themselves. It is why they appoint agents, and therefore HMRC need to meet their undertaking given in WT Oct 2012 as soon as possible so that agents can do one of the first jobs that they have been appointed to do.

Yes this new system simply does not  meet our needs. The old form contained the required information. Much better to have an agent electronic registration form for companies on the new promised but yet unavailable agent dashboard.
