We are getting unnecessary grief from local inspectors treating small one man bands who we do the vat for as capricous and negligent. Our records are reliable theirs are "incomplete". The inspectors  seem to have no knowledge of the emotional caosts of running a business alone let alone the financial costs.

This could be the "NEW" version of "record checking" by HMRC. They put the old version on ice because the inspectors weren't getting anywhere (not many penalties). I said in a previous post that what you are experiencing was next to come.

I really do hope I'm wrong cos if not we will all come under fire big time.

with alll ct600 and companies house annual accounts now being filed under IXBRL (if you use the HMRC site!) there is no longer the illusion that ill gotten gains can be hidden in companies! we have had our first corp tax enquiry through,     now compliance/ct600 processing staff are twiddling their fingures!
