Management Accounts in VT Final Accounts

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any of you have a ready made template for producing management accounts in VT Final Accounts please?

If I'm honest, I'm more of a tax bod, so up to now I've only really produced statutory accounts, for which VT is more than adequate. However, I now have a client who would like me to produce monthly / quarterly management accounts, and I'm not entirely sure the best way to do this.

I could spend hours tailor making a spreadsheet in excel, but I'm hoping to save a bit of time and pinch one from someone who knows what they're doing!

Cheeky I know, but isn't that part of the spirit of AW?

Can't you pull them straight out of VTT+?

Hi Chatman,

At the risk of sounding really stupid, how would you do this?

I know how to transfer them into sole trader, small ltd company templates etc, but wouldn't I need to adapt or create a template in Final Accounts so I can get the correct layout?

In VTT+, with the client open, press F5 for the P&L and F6 for ther balance sheet.

Right click anywhere on the report and select Copy All.

Then open a spreadsheet and paste the clipboard contents in there.

Thanks very much. I actually tried that already, but I wouldn't really call them management accounts. Shouldn't they have a bit more detail attached to them? For that matter, I can print the P&L and BS to PDF without pasting into a spreadsheet, but it seems like a bit of a cop out.

I'm sure CIMA accountants learn more than that in their years of training!

Do you have any examples of how they should look please?

Management accounts can look however management wants, depending on what information management wants to show. That's why they are called management accounts.

What more details do you want in them?

Not sure really. I always assumed they were a lot more complex than that.

I'm hoping to be able to sell this to some of my other book keeping clients as an added value service.

I suppose I could always to some pretty graphs and pie charts based on the information in the P&L?

You need to know what you want in them and what they are required for.

Graphs are always good.

how do i do monthly managemnt accounts, with the data fed by the VT file entries, that build up as the year progresses, preferably with interleaved columns measuring against budget numbers.

sounds to me like a fearsome Excel spreadsheet with some sexy macros moving the numbers after a copy paste each month out of VTland....

Yes, that's exactly what I'm after! It's like you read my mind...

Shame you don't know how to do this either. :-(

Its not so complex, I do some very well presented Management accounts month by month just by copying the VT+ TB to a designated sheet.
