Sage 50 2012 vs TAS

I work for a property company which uses Sage 50 2009 (ie not the Accountants version). From the outset I was not that that impressed with Sage, finding it quite cumbersome & inflexible but the final straw was when I realised that there is no facility to lock closed periods to prevent them being altered inadvertently. At this point I decided to switch to TAS, which I had used at a previous employer and been very happy with.

However, Sage has now brought out 2012 which I understand allows periods to be locked. While this will not necessarily fix the other issues I have with Sage, this does fix the "final straw" and switching to a new package (TAS) will inevitably be time consuming.

Has anyone any experience with Sage 50 2012 (not the Accountants version) and/or how it compares with TAS. When I previoulsy switched to Sage 50 2009 from Sage 50 2007 I found that reports ran much more slowly - does this trend continue with 2012.

Thank you

If there is one thing that can be said for v2012, it is light years faster than previous versions when it comes to reporting, in fact, it may well be the fastest version of Sage 50 ever...

I agrre that the new version is much faster, and the lock date facility is good in that you can set certain users who can never overide it and senior staff can overide if required. Quite flexible.

Does sorting work properly in 2012

Sage upgraded us free from 2007 to 2009 because sorting by Date (eg in Customer Activity) did not work properly in in 2007. However, sorting on other fields (eg Ref in Nominal Activity) still does not work in 2009 eg 39488 will come before 669 (I think because  6 is greater than 3).

Do all fields sort properly in 2012?

PS Is there any option in 2012 for reports to pre-fill fields with the last set of entries eg so that if you want to run the same report a few times (having posted entries in betweeen) you do not need to fill in all the data each time?

Thanks

That particular sort is correct - the Ref field is an alpha numeric field rather than a numeric field and, alphabetically, 39488 does come before 669 - in an instance like that, you need to make sure that the numbers are zero prefixed so 669 would have to be 00669.

No.
