UTR stress time loooooms

So, another year over what have we done   - another car crash looming.

How do i get a UTR (QUICKLY) for a (dozy/dreamy) cleint who has just arrived, vaguely aware they need to do a SA return but no idea of their UTR because they ate all the letters from HMRC about it instead of giving just one of them to us?

Why is it that HMRC takes 0 action to resolve this annual problem? but are fascinated by junk no one cares about.

Oh i do apologize they have taken action - the penalty regime has been made more fascist this year, so that's fixed it then, i withdraw.

plus ça change as the germans might say.

You can't do anything without a 64-8

So the client must ring HMRC and beg them to help (they will , I'm sure). No good ringing this week, but first thing Tuesday they may answer the phone

UTR

If you have a 64-8 in place and a UTR has already been issued, HMRC will fax the UTR to the agent - or you can log in online and locate the client. If you don't have a UTR then get the client phone and ask HMRC to fax the UTR to the client.

Ah, that's why the client has to ring, not the agent...

you are lucky you have clients capable of performing semi-intelligent functions such as using the telephone - mine will react on the 30th Jan when it is all too late.

if only they would pay for a service it could be provided etc....

I do admire your faith, Kevin

translated

If you have posted a 64-8 to the wastebin in long benton, they will have thrown it away, so they won't talk to you, so you need to get another one signed, and then post it by registered recorded photographed delivery, by which time it will all be too late......

Of course the time you find this out is when you call them about something important, only to find out they deny the 64-8. The fix of curse is to ring them two weeks after posting it, but that just generates needless work both sides for what?
