How did you arrive at your logo?

I have been having some interesting discussions this last week about logos and branding and wondered how people arrive at their current logo and what tips and advice you would give to others.

At one end of the scale people tend to go for something quick, easy, straightforward tell-people-who-you-are kind of thing and at the other end of the scale there is some serious thought that goes into creating a brand of which a logo is a part of that process.

So I thought this would make for an interesting discussion thread.

How did you choose yours?

Got it done professionally

I had a designer recommended to me, who offered me a good deal on branding: logo and stationery pack.

I told him I didn't want to be corporate, traditional or boring. He came up with the goods. :)

Same for me

I asked a designer I know to come up with a logo and told him I didn't want anything flowery.

He came up with a very attractive logo that proves you must get a professional involved unless you're a designer yourself.

Came up with a theme/branding by using a play on the initial letters of our name.  A graphic designer friend worked with me on the logo.  Use it throughout our office - the colour theme, the signage, noticeboards, letterheads everything.  Worked for us - widely known in the area now, whether people use us or not they know of us as the logo is so distinctive. As a result we get people pointed in our direction just because someone else knows who we are and what we do. Thought outside the box and came up with something that whilst looking professional was also eye catching and fun. Life's too short to be boring!

I have to admit that I stole my business's logo from a bottle of shampoo I bought in the USA. What's even more naughty, the company I sold out to loved it so much, they adopted it as their logo!!!

I think it's always a tricky

I think it's always a tricky one - so many logos look the same. I got a web designer to do ours in the end, my logo creation skills weren't cutting it....................
