Return of Born Dull?!

As some of you know, I previously served as editor of AccountingWEB in 2000-05. During that time my colleagues and I cooked up the tagline "Born Dull?!" which we used an excuse to publish humourous items that we felt punctured the boring accountant stereotype (it's a long story).

After some of us moved on, the thread fell into disuse, and much of the content was abandoned as AccountingWEB.co.uk went through a succession of database upgrades. A question about how Hollywood portrays accountants sent me into the archives to look through a data dump that contains a lot of those long-forgotten gems.

Does the Born Dull?! concept make any sense to you, and do you think it is ready for a comeback in the 2010s? I wouldn't want to impose my nostalgic memories and frankly weird views of accountancy on the wider community, but if there's some interest, I might be persuaded to release more from the Born Dull?! back catalogue. Have a look at some of the existing material, and let me know if you'd like to see more.

And since this is a collaborative community, there's nothing to stop you from adding your own contributions and tagging them to the Born Dull?! thread.

I for one would love to see born dull make a come back. Especially with the more modern ability on Aweb to be able to subscribe to a thread which I do not believe was available when born dull was alive.

Bring it back with all speed

Born Dull was the reason I joined accounting web in the first place.

(and not just by a strange personality disorder...) I wasn't certain that many people shared my nostalgia for delving into the lighter side of accounting - but your responses have given me all the encouragement that I need to get cracking! Look out in the coming weeks and months for the Born Dull?! tag - and feel free to suggest your own threads and discussions.

When I get back (from a thrilling lunch with the AAT in London), I will enlighten those who are not so familiar with it what the Born Dull?! concept is all about.

I'm all for it!

I liked the caption competition too and the occasional forays into the really important and controversial stuff - no not IFRS or iXBRL - the really important stuff like the best ever lead guitarist, the album of the millenium etc. etc.
