David Downing

Last year I read "Zoo Station" by David Downing.

It was well written, tense, gripping and very evocative of pre-war Berlin.

Recently I was delighted to discover that it was the first in a series and have read Silesian Station and Stettin Station.

I now have the fourth in the series (Potsdam Station) to look forward to.

Don't be put off by the titles, these are not about railways. They are the story of an English reporter working in Berlin and observing the Nazis in power. He has a German son (and ex-wife) and a German girlfriend. The pressure on him increases as war approaches.

I recommend this very strongly.
