European privacy law on cookies - Favoured or Farce ...

Has the issue been addressed by the Cloud Industry Forum - Code of Practice? - and if so, if there a published code of practice

One assumes that this will have an impact on the the majority of Cloud applications as well as most eCommerce sites and with this in mind is the Eurpoean law on cookies the right approach

After all it imbues a false sense of security and woefully fails to address some of the more important issues - what about little gems such as BT's secret trail of Phorm without customers consent - http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/11/cps-bt-phorm-appeal

and to add to the absurdity of the situation '.. and on the commission's website if you specify that you *don't* want cookies, how do you think it remembers your choice? Yep, it sets a cookie of course ..' - mmmmmm .....
