Directors register of residential address

Does the register of the directors residential address need to show previous addresses as well as the current address.

Our current software logs and shows the changes ie you have a record of previous addresses.  However on reporting a logging problem that when awry I have now been told by the software company that the CA06 states that no previous addresses should be shown in the register (though they couldn't quote any section reference) and that this reporting will be removed in a later version.

In addition what is the position regarding the register of directors service address and the register of members.

Historical addresses and company registers

S. 615:

(1) Every company must keep a register of directors' residential addresses.

(2) The register must state the usual residential address of each of the company’s directors.

(3) If a director’s usual residential address is the same as his service address (as stated in the company’s register of directors), the register of directors' residential addresses need only contain an entry to that effect.

This does not apply if his service address is stated to be “The company’s registered office”.

This does not include a requirement that the register should maintain a historical record of directors' previous residential addresses.

Similarly there is no requirement for historical address records in relation to the Register of Directors, ss. 162-164 or in the Register of Members s.113.

I'm not aware of any section of the Companies Act stating explicitly that previous addresses are 'not permitted' so perhaps you could include them if you really want to.  However if they are not required legally, it might be wise to make sure that the disclosure of non-statutory personal information in the registers doesn't breach the Data Protection Act.
