Vale Royal Borough Council reduces reporting time by two months with help from OpenAccounts

Vale Royal Borough Council has slashed almost two months working time from its financial reporting process, with help from a financial solution from OpenAccounts Ltd. The implementation of OpenAccounts Financials throughout the organisation has assisted the Council in its drive to save time, increase efficiencies and improve all of its finance and accounting processes.

The web-based solution from OpenAccounts is currently being used by 162 members of the Council's staff. All users have access to one, integrated system which automatically produces in-depth monthly reports, making the month-end reporting much less work intensive. Users can make ad-hoc, online enquiries using the system which has the ability to provide real time updates as and when required.

Using OpenAccounts' Openlink functionality, Vale Royal Borough Council's innovative e-procurement process, branded as 'enable' in conjunction with Macclesfield and Warrington Councils, is directly integrated into the Council's finance system. This integration avoids the need to rekey data, thereby reducing error and ensuring the consistency of information throughout the e-procurement process.

The finance system was delivered and is supported by OpenAccounts' key business partner, Orchard Information Systems Ltd, a company with 26 years experience of working in the local government arena.

Steve Downs, head of financial services at Vale Royal Borough Council, comments:
'We were looking for a system that didn't require costly upgrades and a solution that provided ease of use for our non-finance staff. OpenAccounts met all of the criteria on our selection list. We put great emphasis on site visits, ensuring that we visited as many of OpenAccounts' customers as possible. All of OpenAccounts' customers that we visited were delighted with the OpenAccounts solution and all gave glowing endorsements of the business benefits achieved since implementation.'

Steve continues:
'We are more than happy with how things have gone since our implementation. We're currently trialling OpenAccounts Extended Finance which would allow non-finance users to gain even more benefit from the system and will give us further time and efficiency savings'.
