Baldwins acquires Derbyshire firm

9 Dec - An East Midlands accountancy firm has joined forces with Baldwins Accountants.

The firm acquired Andersons Accountants and Business Advisors - which is based in Melbourne, Derbyshire - as part of its national strategic expansion plan.

The last 12 months has seen Baldwins grow from 16 to 33 offices across the country as part of its national strategic expansion plan, employing more than 800 staff with an annual turnover of £50m.

Robert Anderson, director at Anderson Accountants and Business Advisors, said: “This deal opens up a wider range of services to our clients, which is fantastic news.

“We’ve spent the best part of half a century building up a solid reputation in tax planning, accounting, investment opportunities and life assurance. We’ll now be able to provide Corporate Finance and banking and finance, and put more resource behind our current services.”

Lisa Emery, partner at Baldwins in Ashby de la Zouch, added: “Andersons Accountants and Business Advisors have built up an impressive variety of clients, and this acquisition now means more businesses in the area will have a wider range of specialist advisers within Baldwins.”

Lewes-based firm welcomes new trainees

9 Dec - Knill James Chartered Accountants has revealed the appointment of two new trainee ACA accountants.

Angharad Evans and Zak Holdaway have now taken up their posts at the Sussex-based firm which celebrates its 130th birthday next year and was recently named Lewes Business of the Year by the Lewes and District Round Table. 

The pair have joined the Business Services and Audit department, undertaking accounts preparation for a variety of clients including sole traders, partnerships, LLPs and limited companies.

Mitchell Charlesworth expands tax team

5 Dec - Mitchell Charlesworth has appointed Jennifer Curtis as its new corporate tax manager.

Before joining North West accountancy firm Curtis worked in Grant Thornton’s corporate tax department, where she focused on property development and manufacturing. She gained her CTA qualification in 2014 and will specialise in corporation tax for UK and Ireland and R & D.

Mitchell Charlesworth tax partner Tim Adcock said: “Jennifer is a strong addition to our tax team. She has many attributes including extensive corporation tax experience and specialist expertise in R&D work. Her positive, progressive and ambitious outlook make her an ideal fit for our tax team.”

Adcock notes that the practice has received a sharp rise in processing R&D claims. He adds that Curtis’ expertise in this area will help the practice generate “larger savings for clients and attract new business”.

Crowe Clark Whitehill recruits transaction veteran

5 Dec - Crowe Clark Whitehill has added Bob Alsop as a corporate finance partner to its corporate finance team, working out of its Reading office.   

Alsorp brings over twenty years’ experience in the transaction market. Before joining Crowe Clark Whitehall Alsorp was director of transaction and advisory services at Grant Thornton for over five years. Before that, he worked for nearly 15 years as a senior manager in the transaction services at PwC.

Jeremy Cooper, managing partner of Crowe’s Reading office, said: “Nationally, we have set ambitious but achievable growth targets. We are very much focused on advisory services and are keen to take on quality individuals like Bob, who will add to our talent-pool and help us to enhance our existing and future client base.”
