Does this sway your opinion:

Simple question to HMRC regarding the transfer of Marriage Allowance was “is there a facility to register their clients and to be able to make the application on behalf of their clients.”

A question that requires a simple “Yes” or “No”

Now of course a “no” answer is obviously not one HMRC want to give to the ICPA Chairman because he may conclude that HMRC don’t really like accountants so here is the answer provided:

“We have just very recently made improvements to the online application process and it is now much simpler for people to use. An agent can register their clients but to do this online they will need to authenticate their client's identity. This is because Government services, including the Marriage Allowance, are increasingly moving online to ensure people can access services quickly, easily and at a time convenient to them. It is important that the identity of those using the services can be verified, so that the services are secure.

After the individual's identity has been authenticated online, they will then go to the Marriage Allowance application screens. The person transferring their allowance simply has to enter their, and their spouse’s, name, date of birth and national insurance number.”

So frankly the answer is NO, gateway credentials are not enough and again we are unable to do our work.

So it’s a No to agents and a YES to the question HMRC don’t really like us do they?
