Jordans’ new team grows as Simon Bates joins as Head of Commercial

Jordans Corporate Law Limited, the rapidly expanding new legal practice based in Bristol and London, has appointed Simon Bates as Head of Commercial.

The company was established last September under the new Alternative Business Structure arrangements and received its official launch in January – but has already grown to 20 people. It is now providing other legal firms, accountants and corporates with a wide range of legal, governance and compliance services, including expert legal advice and assistance with non-contentious company and commercial law matters.

Simon joins Jordans from Shakespeares in the Midlands, where he was a partner in one of the UK’s fastest growing law firms. A solicitor with over 20 years’ experience in advising businesses on their contracts and legal compliance, Simon has advised a broad range of clients over his career, from multi-national corporations and household names through to owner-managed businesses and start-up companies.

“This is a very exciting time within the legal profession,” says Simon, “and I was really drawn to Jordans because I see the approach they are taking as leading the way in offering a new kind of service from the traditional practices – highly client focussed and very transparent in terms of pricing.

“The specialisms we offer within Jordans Corporate Law enable our clients to get on with their core business.”

Debbie Farman, who as Director of Legal Practice and COLP at Jordans Corporate Law Limited, heads up the new operation, described the appointment as a “major step forward for our new business.”

“I am delighted that Simon has joined us. With his breadth of experience in commercial law, he provides an invaluable added dimension to the company, and allows us to offer our clients a much broader range of solutions.  Simon’s deep understanding of the market means that our clients can expect services that are both innovative and cost effective.”

Simon, in his personal time, is a keen rugby supporter and gave up his role as Secretary of Championship side Moseley to make the move south.

While Jordans Corporate Law may be new, the name behind it belongs to one of the oldest companies working in the legal field: Jordans was established 150 years ago and is amongst the world’s best known names in law and accountancy publishing; it’s also the UK’s leading property search provider for UK conveyancers, forms over 25,000 UK companies every year and provides a huge range of compliance services.

Jordans Corporate Law Limited has been established under the new “Alternative Business Structure” arrangements, designed to encourage new entrants into the legal market, and will offer a wide range of corporate legal, governance and compliance services.
