As the dust settles on another frenetic January tax deadline, the team at Keytime reflects on how the software and support services fared.

It was a record breaking January with HMRC witnessing the biggest tax return to date. As ever, it was a peak time for Keytime, yet the volume of software related customer support queries shrank this year and the software stood up to the pressure.

“December and January puts our business to the test each year,” says Steven Leach, Support Manager at Keytime. “Crucially the software worked as it should do at the point our customers relied on it most.

Boasting 25 years’ experience and working with more than 1,700 practices, Keytime is no stranger to the pressure the tax deadline brings. Consequently this is a customer support team thoroughly adept at solving issues quickly and capably. As a result, customer satisfaction is at a record high; the past 100 support tickets report a 100% happiness rating at the quality of the support provided.

The issues that had the phones ringing were largely generic HMRC-related queries, such as needing help with error 1046 notifications, clients asking how to file amended tax returns, and questions about which boxes to complete on the forms. A third party security software issue also prompted a number of enquiries, which were promptly dealt with by the team.

At its busiest point, HMRC reported 13.9 returns filed per second and 10.39 million submitted in total, so it is perhaps little wonder that some accountants experienced problems filing or felt the need for guidance.

Mr Leach adds, “We have become known for our stand-out customer service and we find that many of our customers look to us for advice on a multitude of issues, even just general HMRC matters. We invest heavily in our support team and the systems that they use, so that customers get the best care possible.”

Keytime has experienced an extremely active 12 months, with the busy tax season painting only part of the picture. The Oldham-based firm became part of the IRIS Software Group in May and launched a host of new software modules – including Practice Manager, Auto Enrolment Communications and Charities modules. This year sees the launch of OpenSpace integration across the Keytime Suite, integration between Keytime Accounts Production and KashFlow and Keytime Accounts Production becoming compliant with FRS 102.
