In Step 7, we look at marketing your practice and how good promotion can really help grow your firm and professional network.

Marketing your practice

When you’re starting out as a new practice, you’ll invariably rely on building a network of clients based on existing contacts, friends and family. For a while this networking approach will bring in the work that’s needed – and word of mouth will be an important part of this.

But there will be a point at which proper, strategic promotion and marketing is needed to build a bigger client base – and, as an accountant, creating and running marketing campaigns is probably outside your sphere of experience. So having marketing support from your software provider can be a major plus point.

How Xero can help

Xero offers marketing support to all practices that have signed up to the Partner Programme. As your practice grows and expands – and your need for marketing becomes more pressing – we offer access to a number of resources that help you to promote your practice and your Xero services.

As you move through your Xero journey, there will be several ways you can raise your profile amongst the small business community. The practice will be listed in our online Xero directory, we’ll work on co-branded marketing that pushes the practice as a Xero partner and cloud advocate. That means better awareness of the Xero brand and improved brand recognition of your practice.

Our new Partner Marketing Toolkit is an online resource where you can order the Xero branded marketing materials you need for events, sales promotions and general promotion of your practice. The toolkit makes it easier than ever to underline your Xero credentials and to align your practice with our brand values.

The big questions – what should you be asking yourself?

  • How are you currently growing your client base?

  • What marketing channels do you currently use to target these potential new clients?

  • Have you thought about focusing on particular niche markets?

  • Are you planning any events where you could make use of Xero branded products?

  • How will you grow the overall awareness of your practice and your credentials as a Xero Partner?

In the last of this eight-part series we’ll run through all eight steps to summarise how you can manage your Xero clients and really work on improving your client engagement and satisfaction.
