Following last year's acquisition of MYOB UK by CCH, the CCH ProSsytem tax and practice software brand is going through a major overhaul, with elements of Viztopia Practice Management and PerTax being spliced into a new generation of products. John Stokdyk assesses how the combined practice management tools have progressed so far.
Key features: CCH ProSystem
Core functions Central data portal gives users a customisable view of their clients and jobs. Can handle cross-suite reporting and automated workflows. Integrated document management. Open application programming interfaces make it possible for users and third parties to bolt in their own modules.
Cost £70 per user per annum, plus any additional implementation services.

Pros
● Claimed to be the first full tax and practice suite to be available within a consistent .NET architecture - visible in the way ProSystem modules operate and integrate.
● Central user portal is based around simple client list/progress chart (see above), but is easily customised to suit personal preferences.
● User friendly reporting tools make it reasonably easy to draw data from across the ProSystem suite.
● Top notch client relationship management tools include communications tracker, plus compatible campaign management module from third party developer and ClientRelate tax alerts supplied by CCH advisers.
● Includes job scheduling and automated workflows, with links to Microsoft Outlook calendar.
● Document management and scanning modules available
● Users and third party developers can use Microsoft programming tools to bolt in their own extensions.
Cons
● Cost and complexity: good technology skills needed to get the most out of what is a very sophisticated application.
● Work still in progress on the MYOB/CCH migration roadmap to put all the planned .NET components in place. Migration still necessary for some existing users.
