Southend United pays tax arrears

Some rare good news in football finance. Southend United has paid an outstanding tax bill, meaning that a winding-up petition against the club will be dismissed in the High Court on 24 June. Earlier this week (4 June), the Essex club said it has received confirmation from HMRC that the tax bill  had been discharged in full, and that" HMRC Solicitors will be instructed to seek dismissal of the petition at the hearing" set for later this month. The tax bill was for one month’s PAYE/NIC and was three days overdue when HMRC served notice.
