Droitwich-based AccountsVision has expanded its portfolio of spreadsheet-powered accounts production software with an Unincorporated Edition.

AccountsVision is a relatively new start-up that is taking on the likes of Sage and IRIS. According to company founder and managing director Steve Checkley, his research indicated that with more companies taking advantage of the increased audit threshold, many accountancy firms were finding their accounts production systems were somewhat unwieldy when it came to outputting basic accounts for the client's Self Assessment tax return.

This insight led to the AccountsVision Unincorporation Edition, he said. The new program is not intended to replace larger, more complex accounts production systems, but to work alongside them, he continued. AccountsVision can extract data from other systems via VT Software's SNF format or CSV files.

The Unincorporated Edition of AccountsVision costs £199 for the first year's licence, and £99 per year for each renewal. Like the Standard Edition, a free trial version can be downloaded from the AccountsVision website.

The company's product and web-based delivery mechanism isn't its only marketing strategy. Last month, Checkley started The MD's blog to catalogue his adventures in the software trade.

"The great thing with a blog," he explains, "is that whenever we release a new version, I can informally chat about what's in it and why. I also know from contact with our customers that not all of the natty little things we've put in AccountsVision are used (like renaming and creating your own dividers) so I'll bring them up from time to time, and then there are times when we've helped with something that's isn't really AccountsVision related... and I'd like to share the knowledge gained there."
