A Worcester software house has created a 379 spreadsheet-based accounts production system to challenge industry giants such as Sage, IRIS, Digita and Caseware.
AccountsVision looks much like any other spreadsheet, but each cell is dynamically linked to a nominal ledger, explained one of the product's developers, Steve Checkley. Whenever you enter a figure into a cell, the system automatically posts it to the ledger, and a note appears on the spreadsheet to tell you where it has been posted.
"Imagine Excel but with a nominal ledger behind it," he said. "You can post sales straight to the nominal and if those figures change, there's a dynamic link - with an audit trail."
