From a vantage point as a supplier of performance management systems to some of the world's largest organisations, Applix European vice president Martin Richmond-Coggan is aware of the competitive threat posed by Microsoft, but confident of his position. John Stokdyk reports.

"Like everything else Microsoft does, it aims at the mass market," he said. "But bigger customers will be more cautious. They need to handle huge numbers of transactions and when you want to get information out to a wide range of users, you've got to cater for a broader set of needs."
