For almost a year, discussions about the arrival of Excel 2007 have been highly speculative and focused on user interface issues.

At this years APS user conference in Australia, the company's product manager Jim Bolleboom set out how the different ingredients in Microsoft's evolving "technology stack" were being implemented within the firm's Advance practice management suite.

Bolleboom took some time out from the conference to answer ExcelZone's questions on the subject.

Last year saw the arrival of a new version of Microsoft's relational database engine, SQL Server 2005, which boasted a new, unified data model (UDM) which catered both for individual transactions and the needs of the database's Analysis Services module.
