New workbooks and worksheets
When you create a new Excel workbook the initial number of sheets is defined by the Sheets in new workbook option which can be found in the General tab of the Tools-Options screen. (Excel 2007: Excel Options-Popular, When creating new workbooks, Include this many sheets). You can set this option to a number between 1 and 255, the default is three. This setting is overridden by the number of sheets in a default blank Excel workbook template named book.xlt - if one is present - in the XLSTART folder.
