Microsoft Office Live Workspace opens for preview testing

Microsoft has officially opened its online office document-sharing site. Office Live Workspace is a public open beta site, available to anyone with a Windows Live ID, that will let them share and save documents online. AccountingWEB.com managing editor Gail Perry reports.

Users must have Microsoft Office applications - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook - installed on their computers to take advantage of the capabilities of the online site.

The new online service is a response to similar intitiatives launched by rivals over the past year or so. BT launched its own online collaboration portal, BT Workspace at the beginning of 2007, while Google Docs & Spreadsheet has been live since October 2006.
