AccountingWEB's Software Excellence Awards are back.

Like their predecessors, the Software Excellence Awards start with a survey that allows AccountingWEB members to tell us what they think of the tools they use. We collect ratings across eight different product categories, ranging from small business bookkeeping programs to all the main tax and practice tools.

This year, there will be new, judged categories to help us uncover the best cloud apps and forecasting, planning and analysis (FPA) tools. Some of the suppliers in these fields do not have the user numbers to support a straight statistical measure, so the best performers in our survey will be scrutinised by an expert panel to assess what they bring to the market and their potential for success.

The judges will also be reviewing entries from suppliers competing for Software Excellence Innovation and Making Tax Digital product awards, as well as a prize for the 2017 Software Excellence Pioneer of the Year.

Find out more from the Software Excellence Awards website.

Because they are based on direct user feedback, the Software Excellence Awards present an independent picture of the accounting software scene. Vendors that have performed well in previous years have tended to prosper, proving the link between satisfied customers and success in the marketplace.

As well as feeding into the Software Excellence Awards, the survey data will be used to give AccountingWEB members more detailed information on the software tools they are using and considering. We will also share insights with developers who subscribe to the Software Excellence programme and use the data to map the AccountingWEB’s technology coverage to underlying market trends and user needs.

The awards will be announced at the Practice Excellence Week celebration dinner in London on 19 October. Have your say in who carries off the prizes by telling us what you think of your suppliers:

Surprised that Taxfiler is not listed in the Accounts Production section?

I am guessing that's because you can't actually buy it as a separate module - it just gets included as part of the tax package. Seems a bit odd though to omit it just because it is bundled in.

There is an option to add "other", so you can stick it in anyway.

Which is exactly what I'll be doing :-)

Our apologies to Taxfiler and its users for the omission. They didn't show up in our data from the 2013 survey, and we weren't aware it was also handling the AP side of things.

Go ahead if you want to submit an "other" rating for them right now, but we'll see if we can add them to the AP menu for those who follow.

Thanks Tim & John - despite so many posts on here in the past couple of years it's surprising that so many still believe it's tax only. Might be something to do with Taxfiler spending all it's resources on developing software & supporting users, rather than marketing?
