Taxation software has settled down since the introduction of both Self Assessment and 32-bit Windows during the mid-1990s. But these two events left their mark in a sequence of consolidations that saw the emergence of software supergroups such as Sage and CCH in 2000/01.

However, IT Zone user surveys between 2002 and 2004 highlighted the continuing success of Iris, which was the first to pioneer integrated practice software, while best of breed suppliers like Digita, Drummohr and PTP have continued to thrive.
