The Chancellor's Budget statement will be debated live on AccountingWEB.co.uk and our sister site BusinessZone from 12.15pm on Wednesday 23 March 2011 by the following tax experts and entrepreneurs:

Rebecca BenneyworthRebecca Benneyworth, Tax Editor, AccountingWEB.co.uk
Rebecca trained in London with Kidsons and, on qualifying, spent some time as chief accountant of a manufacturing company. She now has her own small practice in Gloucestershire that works with owner-managed businesses and small companies. She also lectures extensively for a range of professional bodies, accountancy firms, commercial organisations and HMRC.

Karen DarbyKaren Darby, serial entrepreneur
A high-profile entrepreneurial success, Karen started the online firm SimplySwitch.com in 2002, and sold the company in 2006 for £22m. She has set up several other businesses including Call Britannia, a social enterprise that aims to provide jobs for the long term unemployed.

Peter Ewen, Venture FinancePeter Ewen, Managing Director, Venture Finance
Peter has been managing director for Venture Finance PLC since October 2007 and built the premier invoice and asset based lender into a 200-strong organsiation that makes over £3bn of payments to clients every year. Part of ABN AMRO, Venture enjoys a 15% share of the independent invoice finance market and prides itself on its history of innovation and service excellence. Peter joined Venture Finance as a credit manager in 1990 just after the company was founded. He is also chairman of the International Factors Group and member of the Asset Based Finance Association (ABFA) executive.

Philip Fisher, PKFPhilip Fisher, Employment Tax and Rewards Partner, PKF
Philip Fisher has specialised in employment taxation and rewards for more than 15 years. He has edited CCH’s Income Tax and NIC for the Employed publication and is the author of ‘Employee Share Schemes’ (2008). A regular contributor to AccountingWEB, he also moonlights as a theatre critic and is London editor of the British Theatre Guide.

Nigel Harris is AccountingWEB's longest serving contributor and has been writing about practice, tax and technology issues for the site since 1997. He fits this work around his role as an associate at chartered accountants and business advice firm Burton Sweet, where he advises a range of small businesses. His focus for this Budget will be on VAT changes.

Launched in 1979 in Pimlico with just a bag of tools and a very old van bought at auction, Pimlico Plumbers now has over 133 professional plumbers and a support team of around 35 staff, with a turnover in excess of £15m.

Star of Channel 4's The Secret Millionaire, Mark Pearson founded the UK’s leading discount voucher codes website in late-2006 as a 26 year old. Mark has expanded his discount empire internationally by launching services in both Europe and America, with plans to target new territories in 2011. Prior to founding MyVoucherCodes and parent company Markco Media, Mark worked as a chef at Claridges under Gordon Ramsay and launched a bespoke flower gift website.

Jonathan Russell, ReesRussellJonathan Russell, managing partner at ReesRussell and vice-president of the UK200
A practitioner for more than 30 years, Jonathan left Critchley’s to form his own firm, ReesRussell in 2006 and acquired a further practice Russell Phillips in 2009. A past president of the UK200Group, he remains a board member of the accountancy association. He is also on the board of CountrySmiths, an online equestrian/pet supplies retailer. An experienced forensic accountant, he is also an accredited mediator and member of the Institute of Arbitrators.

Simon SweetmanSimon Sweetman
Simon is an independent consultant who was an inspector of taxes for 18 years before joining chartered accountants Scrutton Goodchild & Sanderson (later part of Scrutton Bland). As a consultant, he advises accountants, solicitors and small businesses on direct tax. He contributes regularly to AccountingWEB, Taxation, and Tax Journal. Simon is a member of the Tax Policy Unit of the Federation of Small Businesses and several other influential committees, including the small business review panel at the Office of Tax Simplification.

Associate Director at the CIPP since January 2008, Karen is responsible for maintaining the CIPP website and news services and writes a wide range of articles for external professional bodies and media. Karen attends a number of consultation forums with HMRC, the Department of Work and Pensions and the Scottish Government.  She is a member of the Admin Burdens Advisory Board and currently co-chairs the Employment Consultation Forum with HMRC’s David Ellis.

Paul Webb is a tax partner at Robert James Partnership. Since joining Robert James in 1998 he has specialised in identifying and developing tax planning strategies for individuals and companies alike. In particular, Paul works with clients looking to implement tax efficient employee share scheme structures. Paul is a qualified chartered tax advisor and a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians.
