Andrew Cherry's Life post accounting has been more exciting that he would have presupposed. Cherry is no stranger to laying his hands on cash. But it is one thing to raise £40m during the dotcom boom, quite another in 2008. Nevertheless, approaching suitable companies with a professional air has had brought dividends. Cherry talks to Gerry O'Kane.

If your mobile alerts you to a text and you discover a longer than usual and rather well-spelt message, it’s likely that a piece of technological wizardry has translated a voice message to text. And that is most likely to have come from a relatively unknown British company called SpinVox

Its unique technology has won a stream of business and innovation awards since its first appearance and, more recently, a series of highly lucrative contracts with global telecom carriers. But most UK investors will never have heard of it and that's because it remains a private firm although plans are afoot to take it public.

But as a child wading in the 'blistering' sun of Bangor, Northern Ireland, the furthest thing from Andrew Cherry's mind was that he'd be an enthusiastic finance director with a world of travel under his belt.
