Election date set for 6 May

Gordon Brown has confirmed today that the general election will take place on 6 May.
In what he called "the worst kept secret of recent years", the prime minister made the announcement at Downing Street accompanied by members of his cabinet.
Brown said Britain is "on the road to recovery and nothing we do should put that recovery at risk". He also stressed that he would fight hard for families on "modest incomes".
