'He's disabled' and 'she only wanted £3 an hour' are among the outlandish excuses given by employers for not paying the national minimum wage (NMW) to workers, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has revealed.
The Revenue said its 16 enforcement teams have uncovered almost £3.3 million in underpaid salaries across the UK over the past 12 months with several employers giving far from acceptable excuses for the reasons why workers have been left out of pocket.
