The outsourcing of manufacturing to China has taken a hammering this month, as US toy recalls climb into the millions, forcing other companies to review the complexity of their eastern supply chains and potential hidden expense of low-cost suppliers. Offshore outsourcing of service functions has gone through similar confidence crises, especially over call centres that get called back due to customer irritation.
