Redundancies and supply chain problems threaten business

  • Supply chain problems and redundancies are having a negative effect on business.
  • Operational risk management is now at the top of the boardroom agenda.
  • Companies need to create contingency plans to protect themselves from unexpected threats.

Supply chain issues and the impact of redundancies were voted the two biggest risks to business operations in a recent poll carried out by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and SunGard Availability Services.

Among the companies questioned, 70% said they were at more risk from damaging supply chain issues (e.g. business partners going out of business) compared to a year ago.

Half of respondents said that redundancies and cost reductions have impacted on the effectiveness of day to day operations and increased operational risk.
