How to be more persuasive

  • Most people pick up on the verb in a setence first
  • Removing negative words from the sentence will help you send your message more clearly
  • Using action commands can help steer the conversation your way
  • Stating your preferred outcome at the start of the conversation can also help

From motivating team members to winning clients round to your point of view, persuasive communications are essential at work, explains Christine Knott.

There are always occasions when you need someone to do something in a certain way or respond quickly to your request. It could be a life or death situation where you have minimal time to get across your message. Alternatively instances at work could require the transfer of instructions or perhaps a call to action with a client.
