Innovation - other top tips

Thanks for an interesting article. 'Creativity is connection' has always been my mantra, so you need to create ways for people to make connections between what they understand and other unexpected ideas. On this basis, there are another two areas to consider:

1. Secondments - make it easy to move around in the company, and even go outside it. New experiences will make innovation easier and ideas from unconnected fields might make all the difference. International experience is even better.

2. Teamwork - the hint is in the title of the article. When you work in teams to be innovative, especially with people not directly in your area of influence, new ideas become easier. You should think of the accounting department teaming up wtih the engineers, or the purchasing area linking up with marketing. Unexpected combinations will give you better ideas.

The recent article by NewScientist also gives some good ideas: http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20227072.400-eight-ways-to-boost-y...
