The dataflow Project Accounting, Management and Costing System
Most Financial Accounting systems are designed for manufacturing or retailing businesses and the few Project Accounting systems that exist focus on service-based organisations and not on the specific needs of project-based companies who undertake sizeable, one-off projects and need to maintain tight gross margin control of contracts.
The Solution
The dataflow Project Costing module provides company-wide visibility to project profitability and early recognition of any potential problems. The system focuses on streamlining the entry and processing of all project-related transactions using flexible, user-defined project structures. This enables your business to effectively control projects from first contact through to completion, with a detailed view of the eventual profitability throughout the project together controls for the prudent recognition of revenue from those projects in your financial accounts.
Dataflow Project Accounting is focussed on Gross Margin control throughout the life of the project, which means that relevant figures such as, Estimated Cost to completion, Remaining Budget to completion, Current Actual Cost, Sales Value, plus more, are prominent on all project review screens at all levels of the project.
The system immediately recognises all liabilities as soon as Purchase Orders are placed, Works Orders raised or Stock Allocated prior to actual expenditure. Overspend is identified early, giving you the control and visibility you need to measure project performance accurately and take any necessary action to avoid overspend.
Dataflow Project Accounting offers various methods of valuing Work In Progress, providing measures to handle different types of contract within the same organisation. Darius Mogtader, Dataflow’s Managing Director, pointed out the benefits of having an integrated system for project based businesses. "Significant efficiency gains are made from using a system like dataflow. Many processes that are currently taking up valuable time are automated. Companies require access to accurate information and with dataflow we are able to offer project based businesses exactly this”.
About Dataflow
Dataflow was founded in response to a demand for more flexible software capabilities than standard off-the-shelf packages and specialise in the design and development of business management software, with a particular emphasis on accounting.
dataflow was the first true 32~bit product to be released for the UK SME market and was the first UK accounting software compatible with Microsoft's SQL Server, taking advantage of all aspects of the Windows environment. Dataflow is committed to developing a high quality accounting and business management solution that will enhance the productivity of small to medium-sized businesses.
One of dataflow’s strengths is its customisation ability and the Customizer toolkit allows you to adapt dataflow without altering the underlying source code. You can change or add to the standard screens, and create new user-defined screens. All modifications are automatically re-applied when a new release becomes available. Programmable interfaces using ActiveX and XML are available to external systems for retrieving data, creating and modifying customer accounts, supplier accounts, stock items and other similar data, and for posting accounting, document and stock transactions.
We also aim to provide this solution as the financial backbone for vertical market and bespoke applications that offers a controlled environment for secure and professional integration. Utilising the Customizer toolkit, Dataflow have developed vertical market applications for industries such as Distribution, Haulage Management, Storage & Warehousing, Automotive Workshop Administration, Waste Management, Property Management and School Administration. All these systems have at their heart the dataflow financial management software, giving them a truly integrated solution.
