One really disconcerting change to Excel 2007 is the disappearance of the toolbars. Features you use all the time seem to have disappeared back to into the menus.

People with prior versions of Excel usually have two toolbars permanently on display – Standard and Formatting.

Your Standard Toolbar has now been replaced by the Quick Access toolbar.

When you install Excel 2007, the Quick Access toolbar appears at the top of the screen. It only contains one or two icons such as Save, Undo and Redo, and is easy to overlook.

When Excel 2007 is installed, the Quick Access toolbar is virtually empty. Fill it up immediately so that it becomes equivalent to your Standard toolbar

To do this, right click anywhere on the ribbon, select Customise Quick Access toolbar. Add these icons:

Insert Sheet Rows, Insert Sheet Columns, New, Print Preview, AZ, ZA.

In fact, you can add ANY icon to your Quick Access toolbar by simply right clicking on it.

Add the Autosum (big sigma) icon this way. Go into Home - find the Sigma at far right - right click on it – Add to the Quick Access toolbar.
