INTERNET MONITOR: HMRC offers advice and software to combat Excel errors

If anyone is going to know about errors in spreadsheets, it's going to be the tax officials who have to sort through thousands of Excel-based tax computations and accounts every year.

Historically, VAT inspectors estimate that there are material errors in 70-80% of the what they classify as high-risk spreadsheets they review. To try and counteract this trend, the department's National Audit Service developed a software program called SpACE.
