I wish
that accountants concentrated on being good accountants rather than being all things to all men. I think a reasonable degree of IT literacy is essential in ANY business environment and I am still staggered by the number of accountants who don't / wont / can't even use email effectively. However, accountants are in the "trust me" branch of professionals and may be deemed to be experts on any area in which they give advice. If they are not experts then they should leave well alone.

aren't there too many accountants offering IT advice of the back of a fag packet (Are we still allowed to use that metaphor?) - as in you should use this accounting app - my cleaner's mother-in-law swears by it (or is that at it? I can never remember!)
Accountants are accountants - they are not professionally qualified to unblock your drains, fix your car, or sell you IT. Unfortunately there are also IT consultants etc who are equally unqualified to sell you IT.
