The expenses scandal sweeps UK business

As taxpayers, readers will have been scandalised by the items MPs claimed as expenses, but is the picture so very different inside UK companies and organisations? David Vine reports.

An analysis of over 4.8 million expense claims made last year by over 150,000 UK based employees showed that handcuffs; a bribe to border guards to get out of Iraq; personal massages; renewing a passport, and condoms were among some of the items claimed. The largest single paid expense claim was £38,179 as compensation for a cancelled holiday.
