Taking the longest possible view, the issue of corporate governance has been around for as long as there has been a separation between the ownership and the control of commercial concerns. Although they might have referred to it in other terms, Britons have probably been talking about it since the South Sea Bubble and before.

As we know it today, the question of corporate governance arose after the Second World War.
