In advance of the Windows Vista/Office 2007 launch later this year, Microsoft is cranking up its marketing machine another notch for an offensive on the business intelligence market.

For several years, Microsoft has had bits and pieces of the BI tool set lying around different parts of the organisation - for which it has taken some stick from the influential OLAP Report. Responding to the critics, Microsoft is showing signs of pulling them together into a more coherent offering.

They clearly have the toolset to compete with the mainstream suppliers of this type of stuff, but I wonder if they understand the importance of making it accessible, and I wonder if they know how to make it accessible? This is a different market place to Office and CRM/ERP etc.
