The Green House, a young and innovative company which designs bespoke environmental solutions for large blue-chip organisations, recently decided to invest in a new budgeting and forecasting solution to replace their existing Excel spreadsheet model. As a fast growing business The Green House realised that a more dynamic, sophisticated system was needed in order for the budget to develop and mature alongside the business.

Steve Finch, Financial Controller at The Green House, comments, ‘we were finding that as the budget got more complex Excel could not really cope or keep pace with our demands.’ He continues, ‘if we were to continue introducing new parts of the business to the model, adding new codes or new working methods we could not waste time changing ten or more tabs of the worksheet, it just was not practical.’ Steve also notes that the process was becoming more time consuming and there was more room for errors in the model; something just not satisfactory for a swiftly expanding company.

By chance Steve knew of Inca from a previous role and was aware that Inca Planning might be what The Green House needed. The company also considered Corporate Planner, and Prophix but Steve considers that Inca’s demonstration was the best they saw; ‘Inca was very professional and helpful with any queries we had,’ he says, ‘they even arranged a customer site visit which none of the other providers offered’.

The Green House chose Inca as their preferred vendor, ‘Inca Planning offered us the ability to budget, bring in actuals and to combine the two, along with ongoing reporting and forecasting in a reduced time’, comments Steve, ‘Inca also provided on-site implementation with a dedicated consultant; one of the other vendors only offered online implementation which was just not appropriate for us’. Having already completed training at the Inca Academy, The Green House are now in the middle of the implementation process. Indeed they have already nearly completed entering their budget, and eventually hope to have a three year budget which they will reforecast on a quarterly basis.

Chris Kerrison, CEO of Inca Software, says, ‘I am delighted that The Green House have chosen Inca Planning to reduce the time involved in their budgeting process; I am confident that not only will Inca Planning fulfill its remit but will continue to develop alongside the company in all its activities’.

About The Green House
The Green House was founded in 2006 to design bespoke environmental solutions for large blue-chip organisations. The company identified a gap between what traditional waste companies were providing and what businesses in the UK needed – comprehensive research, analysis, advice and practical daily management. The Green House develops solutions for businesses that will allow them to understand their obligations, manage their environmental systems and bring costs under control. They analyse the current situation through waste audits and put forward new solutions to help create long-term, sustainable waste and recycling policies.
