IRIS Accounts Production tops industry survey
IRIS Accounts Production software leads the field and that's official according to AccountingWeb's latest IT Zone Survey. The leading on-line community for accountants revealed that the IRIS system has the greatest number of users, with a 16% share of the market. The company also tops the satisfaction ratings scoring 4.5, a full .3 points ahead of its nearest competitor.
John Stokdyk, Editor of AccountingWeb wrote: 'IRIS has maintained consistently high scores in both categories, and has been rewarded by steady gains among survey respondents.'
John argues that customer support is a key differentiator. 'As it becomes more difficult to choose between the features and functions of different applications, the suppliers' technical back-up and customer service becomes an important differentiator.'
IRIS is passionate about customer support and provides as standard a telephone helpline manned by qualified staff and a continual flow of software updates incorporating new legislation and standards. The majority of calls to the helpline are answered within a minute and a wealth of experience ensures that the solution is talked through immediately without the need for a return call.
One IRIS Accounts Production user has already added a comment to the AccountingWEB site in response to the survey results. Alan McGibbon of Campbell Dallas said: 'IRIS is streets ahead. Having grown up with IRIS over the past 18 years I have no doubts that it will be out there in the lead when it comes to introducing the new standards. From a user's point of view I know that IRIS Accounts Production and the rest of the integrated family will come up trumps, due in no small measure to the way that they treat their customers - they listen and react. In this day and age you cannot say this about too many suppliers.'
Interestingly since 2002, IT Zone survey results indicate that accountants are turning to suppliers of accounts production tools that link electronically to other practice applications. Suite suppliers controlled 37% of this marketplace in 2002, but by 2004 more than half the respondents (53%) used an accounts production tool from a full-service practice software developer such as IRIS.
Martin Leuw, Group Chief Executive, said: 'This survey yet again proves that with IRIS, you get 'best of breed' and 'true integration'. At IRIS, our aim is to make it easy for users. By choosing a "push-button" accounts production package that links to their other systems and clients' bookkeeping applications, our customers have found that technology can improve practice efficiency and reduce unnecessary administrative overhead.'
The IRIS Accounts Production system differs from others surveyed in the fact that it does not operate a traditional template menu. Instead, it extracts the relevant figures from the database depending on how you set the client up in the first place. This makes it faster and easier to take account of organisational changes & alter the final accounts layout.
An AccountingWEB member Alastair Harris is quoted as favouring the database approach as it keeps the financial data separate from the actual documents. He said: 'Non-database templates often include formulae that can be overwritten so there is a danger the final accounts will start to develop unnoticed reporting errors.'
