London bombing: a personal account
Chantrey Vellacott partner Philip Fisher describes the events he experienced following the bombings in London on Thursday morning (7 July).
A bomb soon puts life into perspective.
After a half-hour delay in getting my train this morning, I arrived at King's Cross Thameslink and was turfed out into the street, as the train was emptied and the Tube station closed.

Fellow feelings
This all takes me back to 1 day in 1974 when an IRA bomb was planted in the Inland Revenue office in Wolverhampton where I was then working. Luckily, that did not detonate, but there but for the grace of some deity goes any one of us. Other people in Birmingham a few months later were not so lucky.
My heart goes out to all the people of London remembering the cloud we lived under back then.
Thank you, Philip
On behalf of the AccountingWEB team and community members, thank you Philip for sharing your experiences. Somehow your personal description makes it easier to understand yesterday's awful events than the torrent of images and pontification that comes from TV and radio.
Sadly, after 9/11 and last year's Madrid bombings, this is not the first time we have had to react to terrorist attacks. The reactions are often the same - shock, anger and a deep, deep sadness - but they do seem to get stronger the closer to home terrorists strike.
We hope that you and your colleagues at Chantrey Vellacott DFK are are safe and well. And I'm sure every community member would want to express their sympathy for all those who were injured or affected by the attacks.

Update from www.cvdfk.com
While visiting www.cvdfk.com (to enter their Comic Relief/Smart car prize draw), I noticed the following news item about last week's bombing:
"Luckily, none of our people were hurt, although several experienced close calls.
"We are so grateful to the many friends, clients contacts and ex-colleagues from around the world who have been in touch to check up that all was OK.
"It is sincerely hoped that this will never happen again but the chance to catch up with old friends has been a ray of light in what was otherwise a black week for London."
