Thriving new business Mazuma has been unveiled as the regional winner for the ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ category as well as scooping the prize for the second year running in the ‘Most Promising New Business’ category at The Chamber Awards 2008, handing it the chance to win the £50,000 top prize.

The short listing judges were impressed by Mazuma’s concept and potential, placing the business a regional winner and national finalist. The number of entries was higher than ever this year which is indicative of the success and profile of the Awards. As well as the number, the high calibre of the entries gave the judges quite a challenge.

Mazuma is an accountancy practice serving the needs of small businesses and sole traders, which has grown to a national business since its formation in Cardiff in 2006 by Sophie Hughes and Lucy Cohen. Mazuma has recently successfully franchised throughout the UK.

The Chamber Awards 2008 comprises of 9 categories, and the overall winner will walk away with a £50,000 cheque. The Chamber Awards were launched by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) in 2004 to recognise and celebrate business excellence through the successes and achievements of its Accredited Chambers of Commerce, their members and non-members.

The winners will be announced on Thursday 27th of November at a gala dinner and awards ceremony at The National History museum in London, hosted by Dermot Murnaghan & Sian Jones.

Sophie Hughes, Director, Mazuma comments: “We are over the moon to be a regional winner in the ‘Most Promising New Business’ category for a second year running in addition to being the regional winner for the ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ category”. Lucy Cohen, Director, Mazuma adds: “We are extremely excited to have the chance to represent Wales at the National Awards and be in with a chance of not only winning the categories, but also the overall prize of £50,000”.

Mazuma

Mazuma is an out-sourced accounts department for the SME market, providing the personal touch normally not found in a typical accountancy practice. Mazuma’s innovative Purpleforce service allows clients to submit their accounts monthly so that they can monitor their performance throughout the year.

It is a young, modern company, and the way in which the business model is structured is unique to accountancy. Mazuma has recently become a national company, by launching their Mazuma Associates scheme, and is currently recruiting Associates all over the UK.

Mazuma is providing a breath of fresh air in a stuffy industry. Many new businesses feel intimidated by the idea of having an accountant and Mazuma’s founders knew that the industry can be perceived as unapproachable. For a service industry, the reputation for customer service within accountancy practices is very poor. Mazuma is taking our traditional profession and blowing the cobwebs away.

The core market for Mazuma is SMEs, new business start ups, sole traders and micro businesses.
