Almost half of UK accountants now less secure in their jobs

A profession will give a working person a degree of comfort in harsh times, but despite their years of training, even accountants are worried about their position. A new report by specialist recruitment firm Robert half shows that 49% of finance professionals are feeling the pressure, citing job security, the economy, and waning optimism about their business’ prospects as top concerns.

If you ever thought about setting you your own practice now's the time to do it.

We're working with a number of start-ups and they're finding it fairly easy to pick off the competition. The credit crunch/recession has disturbed the market and clients are looking for better deals.

The stereotypical accountancy practice's value proposition is weak because they use time based billing methodology. Their clients are up for grabs for entrepreneurial accountants.

But, if you're one of the 57% of accountants who have a low self-esteem because you think others think you're boring ,don't bother. Clients are looking for a bit of Charisma. As Saha Hashemi of Coffee Rupublic says "I wanted a good news accountant".

By the way, if you had your own business running from home you wouldn't need to struggle in the snow!
