BDO’s Jeremy Newman to retire
A digital pioneer to the end, BDO International CEO Jeremy Newman posted a blog to mark the announcement of his retirement from the top 10 accountancy firm.
On Friday 7 July, BDO UK posted an official announcement that Newman is to hand over the reins to former BDO Netherlands managing partner Martin van Roekel at the end of September. But as one of the profession’s most prominent bloggers, it was only fitting that Newman should have his own say on the subject.
“I wish my successor… every success. He has been closely involved in all the significant changes in BDO over recent years and is well placed to continue to lead the network’s growth and development when he becomes CEO on 1 October 2011,” Newman wrote.
“As for me, it is time for a change. I don’t know what I will do but after 33 years in this business, I am looking forward to seeking new opportunities outside the accounting profession.”
Like the blog itself, Newman’s farewell doesn’t contain many startling surprises, but he has used the medium well as a guerilla marketing tool that helped position the firm as a campaigner for audit choice and rival to Big Four dominance.
For disappointed fans of his blog, he added, “Of course, I will be here until the end of September – and will continue blogging until then!”
