Bishop Fleming sponsors South West hotel award
Regional accountancy firm Bishop Fleming has stepped in to sponsor the “Best Small Hotel” category in the South West Tourism Awards.
Partner James Finnegan, who heads the firm’s hotels and tourism team, spotted an excellent opportunity to support the sector - and raise his profile among potential clients. He is also using the sponsorhip as a platform to campaign against government budget cuts that could spell the end for South West Tourism, the agency that set up the awards.
“Tourism is a crucial sector for this region, and the threatened loss of South West Tourism is a blow for the South West,” said Finnegan.
The awards scheme helps to boost hotels that form the “backbone” of the region’s tourism industry, he said.
“Their role is crucial to the South West’s prospects. Over the past year, many of those small and privately owned hotels have grabbed the opportunity provided by the recent ‘staycation’ trend, driven by the recession, the Icelandic ash-cloud, and the uncertainties surrounding providers of overseas holidays. This region has some of Britain’s very best small hotels, offering superb quality and value for money.”
Laudable sentiments - and a very astue piece of positioning for the firm.
