London-based BlevinsFranks, which runs a specialist service wing for microbusinesses, has introduced a monthly £65 accountancy service for contractors and freelances. John Stokdyk reports.

The firm has been servicing clients via the FreeAgent web-based accounting system for more than a year, but decided to expand its Professional Service to incorporate a full accounting package including VAT, payroll, online filing and tax investigation insurance for £65 a month.

"The main reason for bundling some services together was to present them in a simple way," BlevinsFranks microbusiness specialist Phil Richards told AccountingWEB via email. "We offer a menu of services so you can build your fixed fee with as much or as little work required from us, and we have three 'bundles' that are each designed for a specific sector of professional contractor and freelancer. You can add to the bundle or create a bespoke bundle of your own."

In spite of difficult market conditions, Richards said the firm was attracting new clients, many of whom seemed be defecting from other firms because they wanted a more efficient way of working and better value for money.

"This bundle in particular does this," said Richards. "It's easy for them to get up and running quickly with FreeAgent and it means that the client can run their own business efficiently and compliantly, which is very important in today's regulatory framework."

The firm's "bundled" services start from £40 a month and the annual £780 Professional Service includes FreeAgent, which costs £300 direct. "Our research shows that competitors are pricing for non-FreeAgent services between £60-£120 a month £120 for the same sort of services, so all our bundles compare favourably," Richards said.

As befits a firm that has embraced the Web 2.0 culture, BlevinsFranks launched the new package in a recent blog posting and via its Twitter account.
