Being rich isn't as easy as it sounds. In the late 1960s George Harrison had so much money that the 'Taxman' applied a 98% tax rate (83% income tax plus 15% investment income surcharge) and said Harrison should be 'thankful I don't take it all'. Ironically, Taxman was a huge hit, making Harrison (2% of) a lot of money.

In the new millennium life isn't much easier. Admittedly, the top rate of tax has fallen, but the complexities of trust planning, offshore regulations, new pension rules and property tax means most accountants and tax advisers are struggling to keep up with where the best options lie, let alone their wealthy clients.

More and more people are saving, investing and working for themselves and are coming to accountants and tax advisers for advice on how to keep the tax bills down which makes advising wealthy clients tax efficiently an area of great importance to all tax practitioners.

PTP is running a one day conference in various locations around the country to ensure advisers are aware of the latest opportunities and planning points in this potentially lucrative area.

The conference will highlight pitfalls that must be avoided including several which have emerged in the last 12 months, including planning under the new trusts regime and the new pension rules.

Topics under scrutiny will be: Husband and wife planning, trusts for children, school fees planning, the new pensions regime, residential and commercial buy to let properties, other tax efficient investments, realising the value of the family business, CGT reliefs and mitigation schemes, IHT mitigation schemes and tax mitigation via wills and trusts.

The speakers on the day will be some of the most popular and easy to follow speakers on the CPD circuit featuring Tim Good BA (Oxon) ACA, Mark Ward LLB CTA and Giles Mooney BSc ACA CTA
